Laura's Visit

Yay Laura is here!
She flew in on Saturday and we went out to eat at the Marriott and then went to the beginning of the semester party at Shipwreck.

On Sunday, I took her out to Reggae for a beach day and dinner at Marriot for pizza.

Monday, we went to port, Carballe Batik and ate at Neville's.

We went around the island to Nivarva, Brimstone, and Ottley's Planation on Tuesday.  We then checked out semeseter olympics on the strip for volleyball.  It was an intense competition but black semester (6th - my new semester) came out on top, then pink (7th), then blue (1st).  The new blue definitely gave the upper semesters are a run for their money.

On Wednesday, we were tired from the night before, so we had a beach day at Shipwreck and did some snorkeling.  We dropped by field day (semester Olympics event) and black ended up winning overall.

We did some ziplining and had dinner at Shiggity Shack to see the fire man on Thursday.

Thank you so much for visiting Laura!  I hope you had as amazing of a time that I had and didn't get island fever! For anyone else wanting to visit, now is the time!  Reasons to Visit St Kitts

Break

A nice relaxing much needed break.  I did a little bit of traveling to IL, WI, our lake house, and Charleston.  I was able to get some shopping in, favorite meals, and catch up time with some friends.

I went back to the island on Thursday to prepare for my friend, Laura coming on Saturday for a week!  I have a new roommate this semester who is in first semester.  She is already settling in beautifully.

So to put any rumors to rest, I will be re-taking Small Animal Surgery this semester.  I hate that I amnotmoving on with my friends and that I will be on the island for 8 more months, but I am going to have to make the most of it. I will have more time to brush up on notes for 7th semester and better prepare for clinics.  I will also be starting up belly dance class again!

Farewell Blue

Blue's farewell:

It will be very bittersweet to see them go!  It's sad because I've grown with this group since getting here, but it will mean I am that much closer to leaving the island as well!

We had a clinical placement meeting on Monday....I really need to get past this semester!  I found out that my options are more limited than I thought.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like NCSU will be an option for me.  I guess I will need to start thinking about where I want to go based on my options.  I had a meeting with the person in charge of placement on Wednesday, so hopefully that will help with my chances as well.

Thursday we had our VPF final.  I'm very glad to be done with that class.  It was also the 7th semester transition ceremony.  It wouldn't be true St Kitts style without the power going out halfway through the ceremony. It's going to be so weird without you guys here next semester! How am I suppose to live on this island without Jess?  She's been my support system since meeting her on the first day of orientation and I don't know this island without her.  I will miss you the most my love!

There is a phenomenal world renowned photographer (Scoop Anothony) that has been capturing St Kitts life as well as some of the Ross students while he lives down here.  I was fortunate enough to have him photograph me around the island on Tuesday and watch him as he worked on Wednesday.  I felt a sense of empowerment and inspiration while working with him.  In his young age, he has had such a beautiful and passionate life that would humble most people.  I very much enjoy his art, I feel he is able to truly capture the emotion and spirit of the person that others don't see. Blue/Pink BBQ and the Leadership awards dinner are both on Saturday if the hurricane continues to hold off, but unfortunately I have a lot of work to do before finals, so I will have to skip them.

4th Round of Blocks

Ross was started a recycling program which is great news!  I have almost forgotten how to recycle while being here.  They have a ship that's going to take all the recycling back to the States.
I've started putting aside stuff that I want to sell and this week I'm going to start taking pictures and posting it.

Last sets of blocks!  Now to just start preparing for finals so I can be done with this semester for good.
On Thursday we had our intro to clinics lecture in order to prepare us to pick our rotations for next semester and rank them.  Our mandatory rotations are grand rounds, mock phone call, small animal clinics, bovine, equine, emergency, clinical pathology.  The elective rotations that we can choose from are anesthesia, advanced clinics, advanced bovine, ambulatory, digital imaging, acupuncture, small animal surgery, rehabilitation therapy, primate research, theriogenology, dentistry, or communication.  Hmm what to pick?
I had my anesthesia review on Friday where the professors and techs just asked us some questions so they know we are prepared for anesthesia next semester.

This weekend is the Blue banquet and last cat trip with blue semester!
