Staying busy

Beachfest was a fun time and luckily I didn't get burnt at all!

We had three adoptions, two cats and one dog, at adoption day!  Yay!

I am thinking about going to a student conference in March at LSU.  Savma Symposium 2013

Monday, I helped sell tickets for the PAWS dog walk this weekend.and it was my first day volunteering with the Donkey Pain Perception Project.  It was a lot of fun and I'm really excited about getting to work with the donkeys!
Tuesday,  Dr. L. David Mech, a wildlife research biologist came and talked at lunch about his research experience with wolves.  I also went home early because I wasn't feeling well. :(
On Wednesday, I paid for my scuba certification!! I'm still very nervous but very excited as well!  Another check off the bucket list.  I also found out that two more PAWS cats might have homes!
I went to a meeting about the Shorebird Project at lunch on Thursday.  I wanted to do it last semester, but my workload was so crazy, so this semester I definitely want to look into it more.
Friday was volleyball and an early night, because I had to be up early for the PAWS dog walk on Saturday.  I also have my Physio test Monday, so I reviewed the rest of the weekend.

Long week

This weekend was full of drinks at Fat Tuesday, dinner at Rock Lobster, losing $4 at the casino, laying poolside, and Mr. Ross.  Here's a few videos from Mr. Ross:

Also I got feathers put into my hair this weekend:

Long week this week!
Monday was a long day with an AAV meeting at lunch and I was in classes until 6pm with only a break from 9 to 12pm.  I worked on  my lab animal paper during that time and went to the gym.  I then had a Skype date that night with Bethany!  My plan this semester is to try to get through the American Film Institute's list of top 100 movies and maybe the New York Times' list of best seller books!  How's that for checking off some of my bucket list!  I just got through Easy Rider....very interesting....hmm what's next......?
Tuesday was another long day with a VBMA meeting at lunch.  I got my certificate for VMBA that I earned two semesters ago.

Yet again, another long day on Wednesday with a PAWS meeting at lunch and an officer meeting at 6pm.  I felt really sick that night, so I ended up going to bed early.
On Thursday, I caught up on work from yesterday and finished my lab animal paper.  It was also the last day of the lab animal class.  There was a scuba meeting at 5:30pm and a Bovine club dinner 6pm.
Finally Friday! I signed up to start playing volleyball on Fridays and we had our first game today.  Casey's "goodbye for now"dinner was then at Rituals Sushi. Yum!
Saturday is Beachfest, so I will be soaking up the sun and perhaps some drinks that day and then Sunday is the first PAWS adoption day!  Cross your fingers that some cats find forever homes!

What Human Doctors Can Learn From Vets

Back To It

So after gaining 5lbs from all the delicious Christmas and New Years food/drinks, it's time to start back to eating right and going back to the gym!  It's also back to the warm bikini weather!

So I am just retaking Physio2 is semester and a Lab Animal elective, so my schedule is pretty simple.  I have Physio everyday at 8am and lab animal everyday from 4-6pm for the first two weeks of the semester.

Monday was the first day of classes and back to the gym!  I also ran some errands in town: renewed by license, grocery shopping, and bank.  I sold a few of my old books today as well, yay money, which I then spent on dinner at Spice Mill with a friend who might be leaving.
Tuesday was the first day of the lab animal elective, which seems ok, but I don't think I will be working with mice and rats unless I'm feeding them to birds of prey. ;)
Wednesday was a long day of pretty much nothing.  The first week is always long and "boring" because there really isn't any work yet.  There was a BBQ at a friends house that night though, so I was able to catch up with some friends.  Some friends found out their appeal today, so emotions were high.
On Thursday, I was able to get my wheel tax for my car done in between classes, so I don't have to worry about that for another year.
On Friday after class, I took care of a PAWS "exchange."  One of the fosters was leaving, so I had to get her cat to another foster.  There was no lab animal class today because he doesn't like to teach late classes on Friday, yay! Semester Olympics had been going on all week, but I didn't make it to any of the games since my class got out so late all week.
This weekend is Mr. RUSVM which should hopefully be a lot of fun.  There are a lot of entertaining guys that are representing each semester, so it should be a good show.  I will probably catch up and get ahead on some work as well as do some cooking for the week, and maybe some beach/pool time in there!

Break

It's so good to be home!  Yes, even though the weather is much cooler, I still wanted a break from the hot 80s!
My break was very busy with birthdays, visiting, shopping, and of course Christmas.  I had doctor, dentist, and passport health appointments to get ready for my Africa trip (three meds and two shots later, I'm ready!  I took the pup to the vet and got her all checked out.  She did have some elevated liver values, so she's got meds to take and then a recheck after I'm gone.  Both of my parents had birthdays, so we celebrated those with dinners and a show (This is the 60s).   I was able to have dinner with some of my favorites!  I missed you all!  I also went to a belly dance show featuring the girls I use to dance with!  Missed you all and you performed beautifully!

Before we left for Chicago, my sister, mom, and I all went and got our nails done.  So fun!

We then took the trip to Chicago, 13 hours, in the blizzard and everything, but hey we got our white Christmas.  In Chicago, I was able to visit Brittany and Jenna and all of my extended family like usual.  It was great seeing everyone, we had a great time and ate tons of food.  After we arrived back home, we had our "family Christmas" and had our traditional lasagna.

Then for New Years I went out to eat with the group and then drove out to the lake house.  Not too many resolutions this year for the new year other than the usual, workout and eat better.  I can feel that it's going to be an interesting year though.

I'm not ready to go back to the island!  This break has been way too short!  I'm glad I was able to see so many friends in such a short period of time.  I will be back home again in August so I will see everyone then!

One more month for my photo challenge and then I will have successfully done it a full year!  Hmm now I will have to think about what else I can cross of my bucket list this year.

I have been complimented by coworkers on how I manage my work-life balance. It's extremely important in my field to understand and enfor...
