Graduation Day

It has finally come. After 25 years of school, including 4 long years of veterinary school, I can finally say, I made it. I am a doctor; I am a veterinarian.

Dr. Danielle Shearer, DVM

It was so wonderful to see friends again that I haven't seen in a year.  Clinics makes it hard to stay in touch with people you don't interact with daily since schedules don't always line up just right. The overwhelming feeling of happiness of sharing this beautiful celebration with the strangers that have become family, followed by the uncertainty of when you may see them again is unexplainable. This isn't goodbye, it's until next time. I thank each and every one of the people I've met on that tiny island for being a part of my success and growth. We survived it, no we conquered it. Congratulations again to all of my fellow graduates!

Thank you to those who constantly supported me throughout this adventure. I couldn't have any overcome the challenges without you all cheering me on.  After all the only way to get better is to surround yourself who people who believe in you. It only took a text message, a phone call, a Facebook post, a letter of encouragement, a comment about reading my blog, or simply that you were thinking of me. I know it was hard for a lot of my family and friends to make the ceremony, but I know you were still thinking of me and there in heart. My crazy sister and her new husband who were technically still on their honeymoon, brought me to tears by surprising me at my ceremony. Thank you both; your love and support means show much to me.

Also thank you to those who didn't stick around and challenged me to do this on my own. I am a better and stronger individual because of it. Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength. I am my own hero. You may have seen me struggle, but you've never seen me quit. Nor will you ever.  I am diamond, you cannot break me. Even if you try to burn me, I'm a phoenix and I will rise from the ashes even more powerful.
                                                (For those GOT fans)

Life is full of disappointments, failures, and setbacks. None of those can permanently stop you. You have the power in you to overcome anything that life throws at you. There is nothing as powerful as a made up mind. All it takes is determination, dedication, self-discipline, and a little bit of effort. Surround yourself with people who remind you that you matter, and support you in ways that matter most to you. No person, situation, or circumstance can define who you are. Don't give up, don't cave in, or stop believing that it's possible. It's not over until you win. Never give up on something that you can't go a day without thinking about.

The best feeling in the world is knowing you took a step in the right direction. A step towards the future where everything you never thought was possible, is possible.  Don't worry though blog followers! Just because my vet school journey has ended, doesn't mean my learning and veterinary journey has ended. I already have my next adventure lined up, so let's see where this next chapter goes!

MarReid

Congratulations to my stunning little sister and her new husband, James, on their wedding this past weekend! It was a flawless ceremony full of so much love! It was great to see so many people there to celebrate the two of them. I am just honored that I was able to be a part of it.  I could write some more beautiful romantic words here, but they wouldn't do the day the least bit of justice. It was a day every little girl dreams of, a day fit for a fairytale princess, which is exactly what Julia looked like. In short, it was legendary. Their marriage will be even more beautiful than their wedding was.
Enjoy your honeymoon Mr and Mrs Reid!

On Thursday we are flying down to FL for graduation! This has been a long time coming! If you would like to watch the ceremony, here's a link to watch live at 3pm eastern time.

Last Week of Veterinary School

This was my last week of veterinary school! Clinics are finally over and graduation is near!  I say finally but the year went by incredibly fast. I feel like I just moved here. I am beyond ecstatic to be finished with this degree and ready to start the next chapter of my journey.

I've been trying to pack up as much of my apartment as I can, while still job searching and interviewing! For now, I will be flying home with Anya! She's so excited to be meeting the rest of her family!
