Alternative Medicine

What It Costs To Adopt A Pet

I've been doing a lot of research this week on alternative since I've been interested in getting certified for it. Alternative medicine includes acupuncture, herbal supplements, essential oils, photomedicine, and  myofascial palpation/massage. A lot of people are skeptical because they think that Chinese medicine is just a placebo effect. Surprisingly enough, traditional medicine and the event of just going to a physicians office, can have a placebo effect. The Power Of The Placebo Effect

Acupuncture works with the neurohormonal pathways of the body by releasing the blocked qi in the body and stimulates function again. It can treat joint pain, arthritis, disc disease, hindlimb weakness, neurological disease, urinary/fecal incontinence, renal disease, skin disease, metabolic diseases, behavioral issues, immune mediated disease, and post-surgical recovery

Herbs such as milk thistle, ginger, tumeric, boswellia, and st. John's wort can be incredibly useful when traditional medicine has failed. Some herbs can help reduce pain, liver disorders, stomach issues, arthritis relief, and allergic reactions. I personally take a few herbal supplements for various ailments.  I'm not saying it should replace traditional medicine, but it traditional medicine isn't working, then it's something else to try. Most essential oils and herbs can be toxic to pets, and unfortunately we have uneducated clients experimenting with them on their pets, so it's incredibly important to ask your vet before using any additional therapies for your pet.

Photomedicine aka laser therapy aids in wound healing. Laser actually stands for light amplification by stimulate emission of radiation. It helps to restart cellular repair by activating the cell's energy production (ATP for those that remember their biology).  It can promote tissue repair, reduce inflammation, or reduce pain.
