Wednesday night: A catamaran trip to celebrate Liz and Bryan's birthdays as well as the end of the semester!
Thursday:  Another catamaran trip during the day!  The rest of the day I had to pack and get ready to move all of my stuff back to the States!  That night was the end of the semester party, so I went to say goodbye to my favorite bar owner, Bary and celebrate the end of the semester.
Friday morning: I leave paradise for my next adventure.

This is my last blog entry while still on the island. You get a strange feeling when you leave a place.  You'll not only miss the people you love, but you will miss the person you are at this time and place because you'll never be this way ever again.  It has been an unforgettable journey of growth, learning, celebrations, and grieving,  I have learned and experienced so many new things, such as paddleboarding, surfing, scuba, failures, losing friends, new recipes, new roommates, new highs, and new lows.  I have learned a tremendous amount about myself and have discovered the type of person I want to be.

I have participated in so many activities and clubs through school such as VBMA (got two certifications - silver and gold), SCUBA (became open water certified), VOICE, PAWS (was a the Feline Foster Intake Coordinator for 5 semesters), AAV (was an Aviary Manager was 2 semesters), Surgery club, 3 different research projects including one that was done three different times (chicken, donkey, and cats), Josh project, tutored, participated in and helped with Mr Ross events, helped with semester fundraising events, failed exams and aced exams, failed classes and aced classes,

Outside of the school, I have partied too hard, gone to all sorts of theme parties (semester color, Halloween, 80s, Disney, paint, luau, Playboy), had my car vandalized, had very little sleep, went on several hikes, ate at almost every restaurant, made friends with and partied with professors, made friends with restaurant and bar owners (yes, I got drinks and meals for free), celebrated 3 birthdays here, had brunch and dinner parties, played volleyball, won scholarships to SAVMA symposiums (went to two - LSU and CO); as well as stayed in and away from parties, danced in the rain, slept too much, vegged and did nothing an entire day, overcome fears, spent too many hours on Pinterest, cooked too much food for only myself, missed my family and friends way too much, and just enjoyed my time alone.

I have experienced hatred, pain, self-doubt, betrayal, lies, loneliness, failures, fear, heartbreak, anxiety, panic, laziness, manipulation, gossip; well as love, happiness, self-confidence, true friendships, self-discipline, dedication, determination, support, calm, success comfort, hope, faith, beauty, passion, self awakenings, serendipity, dedication, and through it all, developed an unbelievable strength.
Farewell St Kitts, it's been..........a once in a lifetime journey.

Wednesday was my final exam for surgery!  That night, there was a final pink cat trip to say goodbye to the 7ths! I have a feeling this will also be my last cat trip on the island since I probably won't have any time next semester.

Monday:  Happy 14th Birthday Buffy!   We had our last SAM class and our Ans Lab final.  I also had my tour of our professor's toxic plant garden for the final on Monday.

Tuesday: We had our last DI class, our DI quiz, and the Ans Lab review.

Wednesday:  I am now officially done with classes and it's time to start cramming! My last PAWS meeting is tonight!  I have officially adopted out over 50 cats in the 5 semesters I was a PAWS officer.  It's bittersweet to leave; I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such a passionate organization but also thankful for the free time that I will now have to study.

Thursday: I had to clean the aviary, go to a DI TA session, and meet with my anesthesia professors.  The 7th transition ceremony was tonight, so I went to say goodbye and good luck.  Like I said last week, it's crazy to see them leave because I started this crazy adventure with them.  I'm incredibly happy for them for making it so far though!

It Begins!

 Fun times with the family this past weekend!  We ate tons at Rituals Sushi, Ottley's, Lobsterfest, the Italian place in the Marriott, and the Marriott Sunday brunch.  We checked out a little bit of volleyball on Friday and went to Nevis on Saturday.  We walked around the four seasons, ate at Golden Rock, and hung out at the beach with some Killer Bees at Sunshines.  There is still so much I want them to do but it will have to wait until next Thanksgiving!

I seriously cannot believe it's December already.  This semester has flown by; it's definitely one of the fastest semesters so far.
Monday: Path Lab Final 8-9am; ClinPath at 10am; PAWS meeting at noon; Epi review at 2pm
Tuesday: ClinPath Lab Final 8:30-10:30am; MOD at 11am; continued PAWS meeting
Wednesday: Study day!  (I've been craving Cheerios for some reason....better run to the store...)  I had to clean the aviary out today as well.
Thursday: MOD final (not really counted as a final) 11:10-12:12am and Pharm review at 2pm
Friday and weekend - Study, study, study!!

It begins

So I didn't end up playing volleyball on one of my teams on Friday, because only three of us showed up.  :/  Oh well, at least we didn't have to play another game and take away from my study time!

Monday was a busy with two Pharm lectures, the last Path lab, and my Animal Behavior final.  Two of the girls I went on my Africa trip with did a  presentation at lunch about our trip.  It was fun to relive our adventure!  If you missed the video, check it out again here.
Tuesday: Last day of classes for the semester!  Yay!  Wow, did this semester fly by!  Let's just hope it's over for good!  We had a PAWS officer meeting that evening to sum up the semester and prepare for next semester.
Wednesday:  Bact Lab final, followed by a viro review and my last viro tutor session
Thursday, Friday, Sat, Sun: STUDY MY LIFE AWAY and pretty much live at the campus study room.  I signed up to help walk to campus dogs again (Fri, Sat, Sun, and next Wed) for my study breaks and for some extra $$.

Finals Prep

This weekend I took care of my car's brake pads, which were apparently very low and starting to make a scratching noise.  I hung out at the beach and pool for a bit on Saturday as well as studied.  I had a PAWS kitten that I was watching for a few days until I could get it into a foster home.  I now have to arrange for all the cats to have fosters over the break if their current foster isn't staying here.

Monday morning started off great with me waking up later than I suppose to because I was suppose to help medicate the aviary birds, then my car wouldn't start so I had to call Ross security to come jump start it.  However, strangely enough, all he did was touch the cables to the battery without actually charging it, and my car started.  Luckily, I was still able to make it to the gym and mediate the birds.  We had our last animal behavior class today (yay) and our final is next week (boo).
FACT OF THE DAY:  Vets need to document and take pictures of everything because those forensics can come into play in court cases.  You can determine bullet pathways, electrocution, deaths by fire (if animal was dead before or after fire?), poisoning (intentional?), drownings, etc. (Pathology)

Surgery club had a lunch meeting of Subway and we got our club t-shirts.  I'm not a huge fan of the saying on it, because it really isn't something I would wear, but now I have a new gym shirt!
FACT OF THE DAY:  West Nile Meningencephalitis' main host is birds; mammals are considered dead end or incidental hosts.  It was been isolated in at least 37 mosquito species.  (Virology)

Our schedule was switched around a bit on Wednesday, with Viro at 11am so that we can finish early and have more time to study next week.  I volunteered to help give eye meds to a sick bird that the aviary club faculty adviser is treating.
FACT OF THE DAY: If a muscle is black, in order to determine what caused the color change you can do a paper towel test.  If the paper towel turns black it's melanosis; if it turns red, it's hemorrhage. (Pathology)

It's August! No more facts of the day, plus it's finals time, so there isn't a lot of new material anyway.  Hope you enjoyed them though!  I might do them again later.

On Friday, we have the PAWS supply sale and a virology review.  The volleyball tournament starts today as well.  Is it bad that I'm secretly hoping that we don't win so that I have more time to study?

This weekend will be nothing but studying for finals!!  We are having a goodbye dinner for a friend, who is transferring, so that will be my study break.  I might even hit up the Marriott breakfast, that I have been craving.

FINALS

This weekend was full of studying as well as the meeting for the dog walking on Sunday.  I picked up some PAWS food donations as well.  The food prices for PAWS are increasing next semester and since we have so many pets in the program, we were hoping the current 7th semesters would donate the food they don't need since they are leaving.  We were able to get 8 bags of dog food and 9 bags of cats food so far.
Monday was full of studying, of course!  I also did dog walking in the morning for a 25EC gift certificate.  Yay!
My Physio final was on Tuesday.  No matter what the outcome is, I am done with 2nd semester!  I treated myself to a massage and drinks on the beach :) Today was also the 6 year anniversary of  the VT shootings.

On Wednesday, I dropped Alex off at the airport at 5am, had dog walking, set up room for PAWS cats, received some more food donations and started packing a bit.
On Thursday, I again had dog walking, put cats in room for break, went to Shipwreck beach, and then stayed for end of semester party.  The semester is officially over for everyone!
Friday I leave for South Africa for two weeks!  I'm incredibly excited; this is something I've wanted to do my whole life and I finally get the opportunity to do it!  I won't have access to internet, so I will post all about it along with hopefully tons of pictures when I get back!

Saturday night, Alex and I went to mass and one of the ministers comes over and singles us out and ask if we would do the advent reading and lighting of the candle.  I hope this means God is watching me and helps me pass all my finals!

Studying some more

Weekend was pretty uneventful with lots of studying.  I am so tempted to turn on some Christmas music, but I know it won't help me want to study, so I have to put off listening to any until the semester is over and I'm back home!

Monday was a PAWS meeting in the afternoon to figure out what's going on next semester.  I did put up a Ross PAWS picture album on Facebook so everyone can see all the cats that need homes! So check it out! Oh I'm still sure I will end up with one of them.  ;)
Tuesday was the Parasitology Lab final.  The only benefit of having this final when we had it is because I now don't really need to study for the lecture final because it's all the same material!  So now I can focus on my other three subjects.  One down - four to go!
Wednesday - 8 days!  Freaking out about the Immuno and Physio exam because they are my hardest classes.
Thursday we got out at 10am because we didn't have Anatomy, so I had the rest of the day to study.
Friday was the last day of classes of 2nd semester! Yay!
Weekend will consist of more studying and some packing! 5 more days!!

Friday -Find out grades....I'M OFFICIALLY A SECOND SEMESTER! It's bittersweet because I have lost two really good friends and I'm actually not sure how I will make it next semester without them.  :(   I miss them already and so glad they have become such a huge part of my life.

Review Week

Friday night was Doc Adam's surprise party and he did have an idea that something was going on.  No one can keep a secret on this island.  Saturday morning I woke up with a sore throat and runny nose, which is probably my body getting worn out.  Saturday was another video we had to watch for IVM and Amanda had a few people over for a BBQ.  Sunday was a review sessions and cracking down on studying!
On Monday, we had our Anatomy palpation quiz, micro review, and then our IVM final.  Since this is a review week, our schedule is all over the place.
The rest of the week, was just full of lots of studying and review sessions.  One of our teachers at the review sessions was talking about the test and this is his exact quote "How I choose your questions for the final: I sit on my porch with a bottle of rum, and some lime, and I piss myself laughing until I can't take it anymore...."  Look at the fun I get to look forward to....
Friday and this weekend will consist of nothing but studying for the upcoming finals!  Wish me luck on them all!

It's Finals Time

How you know it's finals week

Last week of Vet Prep

So this past weekend, I went paddle boarding, which lasted about four hours as we paddled our way around part of the island.  It was the perfect day to do it too.

That night, the entire vet prep group  went to the strip for a wine and cheese night, which ended up turning into a karaoke and dancing night.  We pretty much had the bar to ourselves, so we had a blast and a bunch needed break from everything.

Sunday morning, I went to Easter mass, yes it lasted two hours, and then a cookout for lunch.  I started packing more of my room up as well.  That night, Chris made us homemade sausage, spinach, and cheese ravioli...very good!

I was suppose to get my car on Monday, but the locals here still consider "Easter Monday" a holiday, so doing all the paperwork had to be changed until Wednesday.  I did spend the day studying and getting more of my room together.
On Tuesday we had our last Applications, EBM, Pharm, and Micro class....crazy to think this semester is already over! I feel like I just got here!
On Wednesday I went and got my car paperwork all transferred to my name and I am now the owner!  Who is up for a joy ride?!

Thursday was our last day of Study Skills and Vet Term, which leaves one more class, Physio!
Friday and this weekend is studying weekend for tests Monday and I will then be back in the states on Tuesday!  I cannot wait!  I will still update my blog throughout break however, so be sure to keep reading!

As a side note:
Monday April 16th is the 5th Anniversary of the shootings at Virginia Tech.  Please keep the families of the victims in your thoughts and prayers.
