Halloween 2017

This week was spent getting back into the swing of things at work after such a wonderful vacation.

Halloween was this past week! I decorated the apartment a bit in the spirit of the holiday. 

This was the first year that I wasn't able to completely dress up for Halloween such was a little disappointing. I did a few little subtle things though....

Anya did dress up for me instead, although she wasn't too thrilled.

Shelter Medicine Rotation

Frank Beamer has announced his retirement from coaching VT football.  I'm so excited to be going to Blacksburg for the weekend of his last home game!  Check out this tribute video to the legend.

This week I started my Shelter Medicine rotation.  On this rotation, we travel to different shelters and perform physical exams on the new animals, give them any vaccines and/or medications they need.

Remember those fun undergrad moments, such as the fire alarm going off in the dorm at 2am on a Tuesday morning?  Well I got to relive that this past Tuesday when one of my neighbors was apparently smoking inside the building and set off the fire alarm for the entire complex.....

Operation Rescue

Halloween: 

On Monday we had an exam review, but the software we use for the exams messed up the grades, so we ended up having another one on Tuesday.  We received our schedules for next semester and a lot has changed in the lower semesters.  Of course, my class doesn't like that there will no longer be block exams, and 6th and 7th have a class together.  Frustrations were very high.  We also received our confirmation that we can register for the next semester.  Here's to hoping it actual counts for me this time!

I attended dinner at Bombay Blues for the shelter vets that came down from UF on Wednesday night.  Ironically, moments before leaving I found the kittens I've been looking for. So the story is, we've had a stray wandering around our complex for about two months now. We noticed she was pregnant but I was unable to catch her before she had her kittens.  She still came around the complex but without her kittens.  We talked about getting her to FCP for their spay day, but we had to wait until the kittens were old enough.  Well, this past Sunday marked about six weeks since she had the kittens, so we caught her and I brought her into FCP for this Saturday's spay day.  I was hoping that since mom wasn't around that the kittens would venture out from wherever they were hiding, and so on Wednesday night they did!  My neighbor ran up my stairs telling me that another neighbor saw the kittens when one of them tried to approach her dog.  So, I went searching for them which didn't take long because they were meowing for each other.  The first one came right up to me, the second one was more hesitate but once he saw that his brother was with us, he came to us as well.  The female was harder to catch; I actually had to go into the neighbors yard to grab her (a local that lives directly in front of our complex).  I am so excited that we got them all!  We were right about them being around 6 weeks old and luckily they looked very healthy.  PAWS is taking them in so hopefully they will all find great homes!

Friday, there is a night cat trip with pink semester!  I haven't been on a night cat trip before so I'm excited; it should be a wild time.
The West Indies Conference starts on Sunday.  I am registered to attend any lectures I am interested in as well as a speed networking event.

End of October

We had our 3rd surgery exam on Monday.  On Wednesday I ran around port to find parts of my Halloween costume and a friend from the old blue semester came into town. There was an avian talk from vet who graduated from The University of Missouri and worked at the  Missouri Raptor Center on Thursday.

Friday - Happy Halloween! I will probably be dressing up as Audrey Hepburn if I got out tonight.  Love all my Halloween earrings:

This weekend, I will try to get some beach time.  On Saturday night, I'm attending the leadership awards dinner at Spice Mill.

Halloween weekend

The weekend was full of lots of fun Halloween parties.  Thursday and Saturday I dressed up as a minon (from Despicable Me) and Friday night, since my other minions didn't come out, I just put on some of my belly dance outfit.  Saturday night was island idol where a group of us performed Time Warp from Rocky Horror, and we won!  Check out the video here.

 

 

Monday - On campus for nearly 12 hours....ugh

Tuesday - On campus again forever!  This semester needs to end asap....I'm exhausted

Wednesday - Just keep swimming, just keep swimming

Thursday - ClinPath Exam!

Friday -  I will be organizing for the Epi/Path miniblock in a week and maybe I will take a break to go to volleyball for a little bit.

THIS WEEK I'M THANKFUL FOR:  My friends and family who have helped support me and get me to where I am now.  I really couldn't have gotten this far without all of your kind words and love.  It has been quite the roller coaster of a journey.

Prayer of a Vet

This weekend is the last PAWS adoption day for the semester.  I'm having a hard time finding fosters for all the cats over the upcoming break, so hopefully we can get some little ones adopted out!  The VT game vs Miami is Saturday night.....let's hope we learn to play again.  Then, of course, I will be  studying the rest of the time.

Friday is November 1st!  I had no classes today, so instead of making it a beach day, I studied all day....sigh.

This weekend I will be studying for ClinPath and maybe go to some of the Halloween parties.

Halloween

Friday night was Island Idol and we dressed up as nerds!  A guy in our semester won, here is his video:  Charlie's Thriller

On Saturday there was another Halloween party at Buddies, as this time I went as Tinkerbell and I gave Jess my coin belt to be a belly dancer!  I did lose my wings by the end of the night though :(

Sunday consisted of studying and cooking.

Monday I was watching hurricane Sandy's path back home.  Hope everyone stayed safe and enjoyed their day off!  Ironic moment:  The New Jersey offices for Ross University have closed because of the hurricane, yet when we have a hurricane here, where all the students are and even more limited resources, there are still classes.  Also, please send some cold weather this way because I think the hurricane has sucked all the wind out of the Caribbean.
On Tuesday, Buffy was anxiously waiting Halloween to bark at the trick-or-treaters and show off her costume.  Thanks for the picture mom!  It definitely made my day from all this studying!  Our schedules came out for next semester as well.  If that doesn't give you motivation to pass, than I don't know what does.

Now for these that just counted and tried calling me a liar with the number, keep in mind that some of these affect more than one species.  Don't you just wish you were taking this class with me?!  The prep school came and trick-or-treated in our classes today which was pretty cute.
Thursday was just a long day with a 5pm tutoring session.
Friday was a busy day with no breaks.  We had class from 8-12, then 1-3pm and I had a lunch meeting at 12pm.  This weekend  will consist of lots of studying because we we have hell week coming up.  Next week we have Anatomy on Thursday and Friday, then the following week Physio Monday and Immuno Tuesday.  I can't wait for this round of exams to be over!  Wish me luck!
