Beachfest

I didn't have class on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday this week.  Apparently Tuesday and Friday are holidays....this place and it's crazy random holidays.
I have been helping people with aspetic, as well as studying for my surgery exam on Monday.

Words will never express the depth of my sadness on Wednesday as I had to say goodbye to my best friend.  The worst part was that I couldn't be there with her to hold her.  She understands though, she knows I was there.  You don't ever truly understand the impact that a pet can have on your life until they've spent their entire life by your side, relying on you, and wanting nothing back but unconditional love (and that handful of popcorn).  The house will no longer be the same without her sneaking up to my room, her anxiously awaiting her turn for popcorn, her lonely barks when we left her alone, her water dish "scuba diving", and the sound of her little feet following me to the pantry in hopes of a snack.  I will miss her everyday.  I will see you again baby girl.

Mr Ross/Beachfest

Mr Ross was very entertaining and luckily didn't get rained out this time!  Even though my semester didn't place, we still had a ton of fun with all the skits.  Check out the videos below and look for me!

Here is the boy band from Blue semester (no I'm not in this one):

Beachfest was a lively time as always and luckily the weather held out for us so we could get a little sun.

Blue semester (7th) found out their clinical placements this past weekend!  I'm incredibly excited for them, especially my longest friend here, Jess, who got into where she wanted (Texas A&M)! She has worked her butt off and is a huge inspiration for me. I'm proud of all of them for working so hard.  Even to those who didn't get where they want, it's only for a year and you are still going to get an amazing education!  I am going to miss seeing each and every one of you! This is blue semester's flag:

My roommate left this week which is incredibly upsetting and frustrating. I will miss having her around and having someone to gossip with and help keep me grounded.  I know this process is incredibly overwhelming for her and all I can tell her or anyone else going through what she is going through,  is to keep your head up and you don't have to have everything figured out right now.  I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason.  I can only imagine the many emotions that you are experiencing, but I do know that this isn't the end, it's just a step to making you a stronger and an even better you.  I'm happy I was able to have dinner with her Monday night.  It's hard to find a roommate this late in the semester, so I will probably be leaving alone, luckily not moving, for the rest of the semester.  Next semester my landlord might not let me live alone, so I might have to either move or find a roommate for my last few months.
The same night my roommate left, I attended a goodbye dinner (sigh) for another friend of mine.  I already miss having her here.

I had a bandaging lab on Tuesday.  I have bandaged limbs before, so this lab was more of a review but it was still exciting to work with the dogs.

The majority of the week I will be locked in the library studying for my blocks next Monday.  In 6th semester instead of having exams from different classes on different days throughout the semester, all of our exams for every class are on the same day in a two hour period.  So there is less questions, but it forces you to stay on top of all of your classes at once.  Luckily, I still find the material pretty interesting, so hopefully it won't be too drudging to study.

This weekend there is a Woof for Wellness fundraiser for Josh Project and SAFE. There are several types of dance/workout classes that will be taking place and I was asked to teach a belly dance class.  So that will be my two hour study break.

On another note, I've gotten emails from people who have been reading my blog and they are inspired by it.  I'm grateful to hear things like that!  I appreciate all my readers whether you are reading for fun or reading to gain information about vet school or St Kitts, or just to see what adventures I've been up to.  Thank you for keeping me writing which helps keep my sanity!

Too Many Goodbyes

Crystal's goodbye dinner

Koby's goodbye dinner

Beachfest was this past weekend.  It was nice to get out into the sun since I will be locked up the rest of the semester.

Sunday was the aviary cleanout, where we scrubbed the aviary and then did physical exams on all 13 on the birds.  I had a Pharm tutor and then the bovine club dinner that night.  I also found my first white hair!  Not even gray, but white!  I think this vet school thing is bad for my health.

Our first Path 2 quiz was on Monday, but it was open note, open internet, and open friends.
Tuesday, we had double pharm, which made 6 hours of lecture that day.
We didn't have the second hour of ClinPath today, because our professor decided she wanted to go home early.  Works for me, more time to study!
Thursday was the independence day for St Kitts, the university was closed and we had no classes.  Yes, we do get off for the independence day of St Kitts, no we do not get off for the independence day of America.....island problems.
Our first set of exams/miniblocks are on Friday! We have an exam in both Path and Epi.  I then have a suture lab, that I wasn't suppose to have originally, but since I am going to my cousin's wedding next week, I will be missing the lab.  I was luckily able to switch with someone.  Sadly, there is another goodbye dinner tonight.
This weekend, is the very last that we will be able to relax, so I will probably try to watch the VT game and get some studying and tutor sessions in.

30 Signs You Live In Grenada  (Just change Grenada to St Kitts!)

Disney Rum Run/Beachfest

Friday was the Disney rum run and everyone looked so good and was so creative!  There was Lilo, two Pocahontas' and John Smith, Jasmine, Alice, Belle, Maid Marian and Peter Pan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Tinkerbell, Jessica Rabbit, Meg, Princess Leia, Arel, Esmeralda, Mickey and Minnie, Mr and Mrs Incredible, Gaston, Mad Hatter, Tony Stark, a pirate, and probably some others that I missed.

 Saturday was Beachfest!

Sunday, I met with my necropsy group to work on the paper, did laundry, and caught up on work.

Monday, I studied in the morning, had class from 1-5pm, met with one of PAWS' new foster to bring her supplies, Skyped with Bethany, and worked some more on our necropsy paper.
I had a very long day on Tuesday.  I had class from 9-4pm, with a PAWS meeting at lunch.  My necropsy group then decided to get together again to hopefully finish our paper and presentation.
Wednesday was another even longer day.  I had my first bacteriology lab class from 8-10am, then a break, then class from 1pm to 4pm, followed by a virology tutor session at 4pm and a pharmacology tutor session at 5:30pm.  One of our new PAWS kittens isn't doing well and is at the clinic hopefully getting better!
There was an avian club meeting and my first clinical skills class of the semester on Thursday.  The avian club needs a few club officer positions filled....hmmm....I'm debating....I'm doing a lot this semester and I like it!
There is a VIDA meeting as well as volleyball on Friday! I am apparently signed up for two different teams, so hopefully they won't play each other!
There is a Open House for the university on Saturday that PAWS will have a booth at that I will work from 10-11am and then my friend is having a birthday dinner at Spice Mill.  Our first PAWS adoption day on Sunday and then some friends are having people over for a potluck that night.  Busy busy busy!

Staying busy

Beachfest was a fun time and luckily I didn't get burnt at all!

We had three adoptions, two cats and one dog, at adoption day!  Yay!

I am thinking about going to a student conference in March at LSU.  Savma Symposium 2013

Monday, I helped sell tickets for the PAWS dog walk this weekend.and it was my first day volunteering with the Donkey Pain Perception Project.  It was a lot of fun and I'm really excited about getting to work with the donkeys!
Tuesday,  Dr. L. David Mech, a wildlife research biologist came and talked at lunch about his research experience with wolves.  I also went home early because I wasn't feeling well. :(
On Wednesday, I paid for my scuba certification!! I'm still very nervous but very excited as well!  Another check off the bucket list.  I also found out that two more PAWS cats might have homes!
I went to a meeting about the Shorebird Project at lunch on Thursday.  I wanted to do it last semester, but my workload was so crazy, so this semester I definitely want to look into it more.
Friday was volleyball and an early night, because I had to be up early for the PAWS dog walk on Saturday.  I also have my Physio test Monday, so I reviewed the rest of the weekend.

So many cats!

Weekend:
Spice Mill Birthday dinner on Friday night

Saturday was beachfest and I then went to bed early that night since I was so exhausted.

Sunday we had a TA session and I did a little bit of studying.  Three (two cats) of our PAWS animals got adopted out!  Yay!  This means I can add more cats from the waiting list into the program, but also hopefully get more cats adopted out that have been with us too long!
On Monday, we started back to our 8am class routine since our teacher is back from the conference he was at.  Since he was gone, we also had an extra lecture for him today at 4pm, so it was a long day and I have a feeling the beginning of a long week.
Tuesday was a on and off rainy day. Another long break from 11 to 3pm, so I went to the gym and studied.  I also made a kitten run for PAWS and picked up 2 feral kittens.  Later that night I got an email about 3 one week old kittens whose mother was killed....sadly it never ends.
Wednesday was the St Kitts Independence Day and this is the only holiday that Ross University observes, so we did not have any classes.  Instead, a few of us went to the pool for some morning R&R and then out for some Marriott pizza.
Thursday was another long day of classes, tutoring, and picking up kittens!  I wasn't able to get a foster for them for the night, so I had two overnight guests!
Friday, I will be staying in and studying and getting things ready for the adoption event tomorrow.

This weekend is Adoption day (Saturday) and the rest of it, I'll be studying for Physio and Parasit.

Headaches are the new normal

This past weekend, I went to Beachfest which was a lot of fun and got to drive some crazy drunks home (haha love you all!) followed by a turkey dinner (Thanks Chris!) and some studying that night.
Sunday I cleaned and then spent all afternoon on campus with several TA sessions.

Monday was an extremely busy and long day, which is already an indication of how the rest of the week is going to be.  We started our small animal palpation with some of the kennel dogs.  At lunch, I met with my Anatomy tutor (there's a group of 6 of us at the same time) and she was able to give us a better idea of how exams will be.  Unfortunately, because of the tutor sessions, I missed the first AAV meeting.  The first semester ice cream social was today as well, so I treated myself after the gym.
Another long day on Tuesday, however I didn't have the last 2 hours of the Intro to Vet Med class, so I was able to go to the gym and study before the two TA sessions in the afternoon.  In micro, we did learn about how MSG can be sensitive in some people and can kill others.  We also learned that it's banned in most country, but of course our professor was able to get it at the grocery store downtown.....interesting.  I was on campus until 6:30pm and I ended up going to bed early because I wasn't able to focus since I was so exhausted.
Wednesday was pretty much like Tuesday where I was on campus until 7pm.  I was craving soup and a bread bowl that day as well, so I ended up running to the store and making some.  :)
I had a three hour break, technically two, because I went to the radiology lab on Thursday.  During that break I spoke with one of my professors to make sure I was on the right track with anatomy.  They are changing everything from the previous semesters, so even my tutor and upper class friends can't tell me what to expect on the tests, so I was worried how detailed everything was going on be.  I also ran by the post office to pick up a package (Thanks Britt!) and went to the grocery store.  Even though I have moved, my mailing address is still the same.  Everything basically goes through the school since there really aren't street addresses here.  After my errands I was still able to make it to a zoo veterinarian speaker.  He gave us a run through of all the amazing things he's done, but I was hoping he would talk more about how to become a zoo veterinarian or something like that.
Here is a video of just another day in nutrition class:  Demonstrating Lipid Digestion (by eating butter)

Friday and this weekend I will be doing nothing but studying for the Micro exam on Monday.  This exam is the start of the endless exams (one or two a week)!  There are several TA sessions this weekend as well that I will be going to.  So much for having a life anymore...
