Midsemester/Birthday

Thank you again to everyone who helped celebrate my brithday, especially Susie for coming down to visit me!  This weekend was a whirlwind of outpouring love and unforgettable memories.  We went to Barys on Thursday; Carambola and Marriott on Friday; Beach, Salt Plage, and Spice Mill on Saturday, cat trip on Sunday, and Caribelle Batik and relaxed on Sunday before taking Susie to the airport.

I had no rotations or surgeries this week, so I was finally able to catch up on a little bit of work in the afternoons.

Bovine Palpation and an interesting fetotomy lab was on Tuesday.  A fetotomy is when a pregnant large animal have a stillborn still in utero and you have to intervene.  I can't imagine it being a pleasant experience.
The rest of the week was fairly uneventful with lectures in the morning and studying in the afternoons.

Yes, I think I will miss the beauty of this place: St Kitts

When you understand who and what you are, your radiance projects into the universe and everything around you becomes creative and full of opportunity.

Mid-Semester Relaxation

This past weekend was a relaxing beach filled weekend.  Monday was midsemester break so I was able to relax for an extra day.
Just another day at the beach:

On Tuesday, I was able to shadow the donkey lab for nerve ID surgery.  On Wednesday, I finally went grocery shopping and fixed my side mirror! Almost four months later, but yay it's fixed!
I had to study the rest of the week for my exam on Monday.

Mid-semester break

This past weekend, I volunteered to help count the coins raised during the Josh project fundraiser.  I wish I got a picture of what our hands looked like afterwards, they were so black!  7th semester ended up winning, so Dr. St. Jean will be dressing up as Zorro.  1st semester raised $431.29, so we ended up coming in 3rd.  The total raised for the fundraiser was $4,263.13 EC.
Monday was our anatomy palpation quiz and micro test.  I will admit I was very overwhelmed with all the information, but I don't think I could have studied anymore I than I did.  We haven't gotten our anatomy grade back yet, but I'm pretty sure I did well and I also did well on the micro test.
Tuesday was pretty uneventful, although we did go see What To Expect When You're Expecting at the theater.  I'm pretty sure Joe Manganiello is what made the movie. ;)
On Wednesday, our class had their first bake sale of build your own nachos to raise money for our 7th semester banquet.  We raised $1235 EC.
I found out that I didn't get the orientation leader position on Thursday.  None of the first semester's that applied did.  I'm still debating if I will be going home over the break though.  I'm considering staying on the island and traveling.  Anyone up for coming to visit me and traveling!?  So only in vet school would you still have class when the power goes out....The power went out in our last class and we ended up having the rest of the class in the dark (projectors, computers, and wireless are on a generator), but then the generator went out as well.  Needless to say, I was not about to workout in the dark, so it was a workout day at home for me.
Finally Friday!  I felt like this weekend would never come!  Tonight there is island idol at Bamboo bar that we might go to.
This weekend is a long weekend because it's mid-semester break, which mean there are no classes Monday!  Saturday we will probably go to the beach, since we are getting white over here from lack of beach time!  On Sunday, I'm going on a catamaran trip which includes an open bar, snorkeling, and lunch on Nevis. (That waterproof camera would be great right now) Then, Sunday night there is a glow-in-the-dark paint party!  Then on Monday I might do some studying  ;)

Mid-semester break

So a lot went on this past weekend:  Saturday at the Marriott was my first sunburn here...ouch!  However, it was extremely relaxing to get away for the short time.  Saturday night's booze cruise was not what I was expecting....we didn't actually leave the port until an hour and a half later than we were suppose to, the drinks ran out in the first hour, the wind made the weather extremely cold (and I even planned for it to be cold and was still cold), there was a lot less food and people than was promised, the music wasn't the greatest, and well I think it might have ran a little long, because we were all very tired at the end of it.  So, unfortunately not what I was excepting.
Sunday I caught up on some sleep and slept the latest that I have slept here.  I also did some studying and cooking (my chicken was about to go bad).  Sunday night, I had another birthday dinner at Rock Lobster with some of my orientation group and had some delicious seafood that I've been missing.  We also had sangria and cake!
Monday was mid-semester break, although it doesn't really affect the vet preppers, because we usually have Mondays off.  I asked trainer Wayne to lead us on the bat cave hike, since I still hadn't been on a hike here.  It was so much fun, wasn't expecting to be so long however (5 hours), but I really didn't mind it.  There was no real paved path and several boulders you had to climb over with a rope.  Here are some pics:

I made dinner that night for Alex and me, which consisted of chicken parmigiana, pasta, garlic bread, and veggies.  I figured we deserved it after our crazy day.  I woke up Tuesday a little stiff and a bunch of scratches and bruises from the day before, but I still managed to make it to the gym even though everyone thought I was crazy.
Wednesday we had our second VOICE meeting to learn some more medical Spanish.  The rest of the week just consisted of studying.  Friday I went to the post office yet again to pick up more packages (Thank you Kristen and Alan and Laura)  I have the most amazing and supportive friends!

This weekend one of my friend's parents are coming in town and wanted to meet everyone, so I'm sure I will be at the Marriott hanging out with her.  On Saturday, a smaller group of us from the Bat Cave hike are doing the Radio Tower hike.  Apparently this one is more of a hike than rock climbing like the bat cave!

Oh and be on the lookout for March's photo challenge!
